Street Art Tour in Telliskivi Creative City

Discovery | Inspiration | People

Telliskivi Creative City is one of the most joyous places in Tallinn, where street art and graffiti can be enjoyed at every step. We couldn’t imagine Creative City with gray walls and, frankly, can we even remember a pre-street art era there? On the Telliskivi Street Art tour we’ll share stories of how the paintings appeared, who are the artists who painted them and the stories hidden behind the artworks. We cannot overlook the cradle of street art – graffiti, and neither can we ignore a bit of history of the former Railway Factory. Old photos will help us guide our way through the ever so vibrant Creative City during this tour, lasting 2 hours and starting in front of Reval Café (address: Telliskivi 60a, on Telliskivi street). It can be carried out in English, Estonian, Russian.

Telliskivi Creative City has developed from an old soviet-origin factories into a vibrant, artist-friendly complex that has spaces for businesses, restaurants, shops and organising events. It is located between the city centre and Kalamaja and Pelgulinn districts in North Tallinn. It is currently Estonia's biggest creative economy enterprise centre bringing together a variety of activities - acting as a community platform for the creatives: more than 250 companies, eight restaurants and many shops are located in the area - as well as co-working spaces like Lift99. Telliskivi Creative City development started in 2007 the location was bought by Eastern Europe Real Estate Investment Fund (EEREIF). The area once was considered as a dangerous area with underutilized industrial spaces and homeless people. The project has ever since had a real impact in the surrounding city communities with the residents attributing to a higher sense of civic engagement, safety and quality of life. You will also learn about how the NGO Telliskivi Neighbourhood Association and the Urban Lab (Linnalabor) are active in the neighbourhood - creating social cohesion also with the communities of Pelgulinn and Kalamaja neighborhoods.

Telliskivi is now a vibrant city area and creative hub that is well-known among people in Estonia and abroad: a combination of artisanry and industry - creative and open cultural atmosphere that invites you to enjoy the tour and then stay and spend your time in Telliskivi.

In 2013 I took part of Berlin’s Alternative Tour and suddenly it became clear to me what was my calling. The sense of adventure, amazing artworks with fascinating stories and skilled tour guides were just too inspiring. Being deeply passionate about street art and graffiti, unexplored areas and traveling as well as enjoying communicating, I realized that I had always wanted to become a street art tour guide and therefore in 2014 founded Pseudo Tours, the pioneer brand of street art tours in Estonia. The founder and guide Salme Kulmar In 2016 I wrote my Master thesis on the history & development of street art; I’ve contributed to numerous street art related events and today co-organize the street art festival Rural Urban Art. https://www.facebook.com/pseudotours/ https://www.instagram.com/pseudotours/
