In the streets of a city – meet creative people and artists in the south of Gelsenkirchen! Or otherwise: cooperation is more than just collaboration…

The street is not quiet and in the meantime the trams rattle past the windows. The c/o space for cooperation (c/o raum für kooperation) is inconspicuously located on a main street, which is the main axis leading from the south into the centre of Gelsenkirchen. Passing cars and also guests of the tram line 302 have hardly any reason to be attentive when they pass the house number of Bochumer Straße 140. How could they? They are distracted from their destinations and are not even aware that behind the inconspicuous shop windows of the supposed shop premises there is a place where artists and creative people are dealing with the city, space and the future.

There are desks that can be rented spontaneously and at short notice, space for meetings and more, and above all curiosity and a lot of energy to want to make a difference. The furnishings and know-how have first-class digital equipment, there is space to relax in the inner courtyard and a Collective garden Green thumb meets art and above that also digital nerds – and something like this should work? What else can we say: it does!

A community has been established here that gives room for ideas. You can meet Alexandra, who represents the national initiative a tip:tap for the use of tap water in order to reduce plastic waste, or you can meet the designer Sarah, who is dedicated to ecological design and at the same time . The initiators of the Places Virtual Reality Festival, the first Virtual Reality Festival in Germany that brings together media technology and urban space, also have their home base here. Everything can, nothing must! The c/o-space is both a laboratory and a creative forge. And it is also a network node for concepts and makers in Gelsenkirchen and beyond. So, if you have any questions, this is the right place. If you want to get involved, you’re in the right place. Mutual support is the credo.

This is also experienced by artists who benefit from the scholarship programmes developed in cooperation with the City of Gelsenkirchen’s Economic Development Department. The offshoot “Creative Spaces” is also a concept from the house, inviting artists to approach current issues with new artistic methods.

The future is what you make of it now. This formulation is a building block of an understanding that is increasingly attracting creative people both in the south of Gelsenkirchen and in the Ruhr area. If this question interests you, you should definitely stop by…
